Ashwin Khanna is a liar and a cheat
Ashwin Khanna is scum. There, I said it. Before anybody goes off on me about name calling, let’s take a look at what this pathetic individual has done. On July 11 Ashwin launched a blog contest giving his readers the chance to win $2,500. All you had to do in order to enter was post this content in one of you blog posts:
Over at Ashwin’s blog, you will find one crazy blog owner!! You can win $2500!! To enter just copy this text and paste it in your blog!! But hurry, this competition will not last long! So get posting!
Hundreds of bloggers joined this competition, excited at the prospect of winning $2,500. There were doubters, but the swine even added this to his competition blog post:
Finally, I would like to say to all you doubters that this is a genuine competition. Heck, I thought a competition like this would spur some interest and get visitors to my site. I thought I might as well use the $2500 in a blog competition rather than spend it on Google Adwords or something. The $2500 is made up of earnings from my previous sites and donations from them also.
There were 567 responses to his content post. After he posted his competition, his blogging frequency was sporadic. Clearly he wasn’t a devoted blogger, but we continued to enter his competition regardless.
Then, on August 20, Ashwin announced this blog (a free Wordpress blog with no author) as the winner of the $2,500 contest. The blog contains two posts: one is an entry into Ashwin’s contest, and the other is an article written by John Markoff, a journalist from the New York Times.
Nobody won the $2,500
While you could argue that what Ashwin did was smart (he got tons of link backs), he lied to his audience, he cheated his readers, and he will now have lost their trust. Did he really think that nobody would figure out this was a scam?
So who is this scammer? According to his “About me”, he is 18 years old and lives in the UK, but other than that he doesn’t give away a whole lot.
Comments on his blog appear to have been closed. I suggest that all of us boycott Ashwin’s blog and let him know that what he did was immature. Even at 18 years old, he still knows the difference between right and wrong. I honestly believe he thought he could get away with this. What a fool.

Digg it for goodness sake! Stumble your heart out!

And you are still linking to him?
Oh snap! i meant to put nofollows on those links but I forgot. Good catch.
That’s all pretty poor from Ashwin, not that I knew about the competition, but it’s a cheap trick to get links.
We all got scammed. I am going over to remove the links from my own blog.

I didn’t add a link at all to his site, I would just remove them all so he gets no references. At this point I don’t think anyone really cares to go there anyway. We just have to keep our eyes out for anything else that seems fishy in the blogosphere.
I don’t know if it would work, but we should email Technorati and Google explaining what this idiot did, and maybe he can get some interest paid in Karma.
Thank god I didn’t entered the contest. Why would someone waste 2500$ to make a contest which involved copying a single post on multiple blogs which means lot of duplicated content. Ashwin is a scammer. Somebody should request his hosting company to shut such scammer’s blog down. Such scammers don’t deserve a space on internet.
Looks like you are right. He appears to have planned and fooled the audience. it’s clear he wanted the link backs! Good that you brought it to light. Such tricks don’t last for long. He should be boycotted.
[...] then the world is not so stupid. Thanks to Phil Van Treuren of Contest Blogger and Angel for bringing it out. I never knew of Ashwin nor have I participated in his contest, but thought I [...]
Just stop all linking to his blog, that scum will gone forever! BTW, $2500 from a blog that isn’t legit, too good to be true IMHO!
Such contests can be VERY easily scammed online with an accomplice or an alias.
Just STOP linking to him (and tell everyone who participated that too) and his ranking will go WAY down.
look for legit ways to get money online. I do.

I removed his link.
What a fucking asshole.
I posted about it too, with no links at all to his blog.
There were like 567 people entered in that contest, he got all those links, trackbacks, his techno dropped under 10k, all for a lie.
His blog is officially boycotted.
In case you hadn’t noticed, there’s a A.K. Revenge Contest at Contest Blogger’s
Yeeeeeeees, what a scam!I entered the competition but i did not believe it.I’m going to remove the link.
The free wordpress blog that supposedly was the winner was removed due to TOS violations. Not as if it matters at this point though.
That is pretty messed up…
I reached here searching for something else…thanks to google

Hi you guardian angel of Ashwin Khanna,
It will bring pleasure to know the link you pass to him has helped him gain signficant technorati ratings and Google ranks. His blog is PageRank 3 now. You will be happy that he also sells a link for $ 20 (happier?)
There are a few hundred angels like you, still liberally feasting him with the links.
OK, make another post and shower him with links, he will be happy for that.
You do a good work, here.
