Great music leads to productive blogging and more money online

When it comes to blogging, it’s sometimes difficult to work productively. I don’t know about you, but all my blogging is done on my bed with my laptop sat on my lap. There’s always a tendency to browse other websites, send emails, chat with friends or just do anything other than the blogging tasks I’ve set myself. I’ve found that in order to be most productive, the music I listen to needs to be something that can inspire me.

We all have the Internet and we all know how to use torrents. While I’m not condoning illegally downloading music, you can take my recommendations for music and do with them as you please. Here are my musical tips to increase your blogging productivity.

Explosions in the Sky

Music makes blogging funThe music of Explosions in the Sky was made for blogging. Explosions in the Sky are a four-piece, post-rock band of the highest caliber. Their music is beautiful, and what’s more, it’s instrumental. When I’m blogging, I find that vocals distract me, so I mostly listen to instrumental pieces. Explosions in the Sky’s music is based around three guitars and a drum kit. It’s like nothing else you will have heard, and it’s inspiring, stirring music. I can’t recommend it enough.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor!

Similar to Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed are a post-rock band who make epic, instrumental pieces. A track by Godspeed can be anything up to half an hour long, and the music is absolutely stunning. It’s a thing of wonder, and really goes well with writing effective blog posts.

Drum ‘n’ bass

As a genre, drum ‘n’ bass music is fast-paced, energetic and active. It’s a great style of music to listen to while you’re blogging because it gets your mind working. It’s not to everybody’s liking, but if you’re a fan of dance music then this is a good style to listen to. Artists I’d recommend include Roni Size, DJ Fresh, Andy C, Clipz, Sub Focus, Mampi Swift, Shy FX and Pendulum.

James Holden

This is also dance music, but it’s a bit more dreamy than drum ‘n’ bass. Sometimes I like to listen to trance and similar genres while I’m blogging, particularly if it’s late at night. James Holden’s music is fantastic. It’s clubbing music, but it’s exceptionally well produced. Another artist I would recommend is Nathan Fake.

Chill out

Sometimes I work best if the music I have on in the background just kind of blends in with what I’m doing. At these times, real chill-out music is best. Artists like the French duo Air are ideal. Others that I listen to while blogging include The Orb, The KLF and Moby.

What’s the soundtrack to your blogging?

  1. Music keeps me going, too. I love to listen to music when I do anything, specially working on the computer.

  2. I listen to brainwave entrainment music, which are very good.

Check out iMusic if you want at getimusic.com they have very good music.

  3. I have quite a few CD’s, but the ones I tend to listen to are India Irie, D’Angelo, Maxwell and Jill Scott, not just for blogging though - for just about everything!

I do remember though, writing freestyle poems to this wicked drum n bass instrumental. It was mad. My pen just kept on moving & moving & moving. Wrote 2 poems in like 10mins! Can’t remember what I wrote about - think one was about a woman on the dancefloor so intoxicated by the music that her long sweaty hair whacked a guy in the face or something. Hmm, must rummage around my folder, see if I can dig them up, might put them up on my blog.

    See ya.

  4. I knew I liked you for more than just your blogging skills.
Godspeed, Explosions, and Air are all in my blogging/music library along with Postal Service - and I’m actually listening to Moby as I type this.

I’ll have to check out some of the others you recommend.

    Nice post.

  5. Sometimes I listen to music while I’m blogging but I’ll be too distracted to even write while listening.
