I'm not sure how successful it'll be but I won't quite lose anything - I'm offering a month of free banner advertisement on my blog to the winner. And it's pretty simple; all you have to do is write a post. You could even copy and paste the example I provided, if the person wanted. I don't think there's anything wrong with having contests. Sure, if you want hundreds of people to notice it's got to be big. But if you're giving something away for just a little bit of exposure and to help the lucky winner too, then that also works. I don't think you should run a blog contest if you're only doing it to gain some visitors... A blog contest purpose should be to monetize your visitors and make more money than was spent.
