Is there such a thing as blogging too hard?
I’m suffering. I went to eat lunch with some Thai friends yesterday and I was batting out of my league with a spicy curry that has since taken me down. I’m in a world of pain. This got me thinking, however, about how dedicated you need to be to your blog.
The pro bloggers say that the most successful blogs post every day. The logic behind this is that people use the internet every day and will be more receptive of a blog that is updated every time they log on than one that sits with days-old posts without any activity.
I noticed that Desi has not been updating as frequently as normal. He said that he has too much on in the real world to keep up with daily posting, but I can’t help but feel that his blog is being affected as a result. I know that he would like to write something every day, but sometimes you just can’t.
That is unless you are a real pro blogger who doesn’t have many other commitments, such as the full-time job that most of us find ourselves working. I haven’t found myself in that sort of situation yet.
But my question is this: Do us semi-pro bloggers sacrifice too much in the real world to make our blogs work? Yes, there me be financial rewards to be had, but when we blog through sickness and frustration and lack of inspiration are we doing more harm than good? After all, not all blogs succeed, so this could be a huge waste of time, but I am determined to make money online to supplement what is effectively a very low salary (I live in Thailand).
I’m a regular 24-year-old and I want to buy regular things. I also want to move to Indonesia in a year’s time but need some more capital behind me. That’s inspiration enough to keep me working on this blog.
At the moment I’m still spending a lot of time tweaking the code and getting everything ready. I’m thinking of turning on all my links some time this weekend and sending out four blog posts to be considered for guest spots on four top blogs. All this and eating dodgy curries! Where is the light at the end of the tunnel?!
