Sunday bloody Sunday, today’s money-making links

It’s Sunday once more so here are my Sunday shouts. It’s been an interesting week or so in the blogosphere because the vast majority of posts everywhere have been about either the Million Euro Wiki or Widget Bucks. A few other points of note cropped up in between though.

Blogs for Money opened my eyes to setting up a 301 redirect from www.worldofangel.com to worldofangel.com This is something I had never given much thought to before, but it looks as if setting up the redirect could be key to improving how a blog performs in search engines. Danny didn’t give much detail on how to actually set the redirect up, but I found a guide to 301s at Taming the Beast. I’m still a little confused about how to set it up though and will look into this more next week.

Everyone seemed to jump on the Blogging-Dosh-bashing bandwagon this week and pretty much destroy Anthony’s reputation in the process after he used some dubious tactics to make money online. I felt kind of sorry for the guy during this whole thing, but can’t help but feel that the situation could have been redeemed if he hadn’t been so stubborn about getting caught out. Read about it on Cash Quests.

I’ve also got to give a shout out to Macewan because this guy is making a stack of money online without anybody really noticing, and he’s doing it almost entirely through Pay Per Post. The guy has less than 100 RSS subscribers, but his blog is at Page Rank 6 (I should really ask him how) and he made over $2,000 last month. His blog began in January 2004, so I guess there is a lesson to be learned there. Way to make money though, dude.

And finally, I gather it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow. If anyone could tell me exactly what thanksgiving is without me having to search for it, I’d be eternally grateful. Happy Thanksgiving to those who have a clue what it is. I guess the important question is: do you get a day off tomorrow?

  1. Actually, I ended the month with around $2800 all in all. A full $2500 was from PayPerPost.com with the rest from other advertisers.

For me it’s all about setting goals, breaking down what needs to take place in order to satisfy the requirements to fulfill that goal and then sticking to it no matter what.

For PPP the $2500 meant up to the very last minute of the month at 12am finishing that last post.

Anyway, I’ve posted a silly video on the front page if you care to hear me blab about my September earnings. Thanks for the exposure.

  2. On the redirect issue, my recommendation would have been to upgrade to Wordpress 2.3. It automatically handles canonical URL’s so you can skip the redirects.

  3. Ruined my reputation? I don’t think thats quite true. John and Kumiko are sensaionalists and they blow these things up all the time. I may be young, but I have been making a full-time income online longer than both Kumiko and John.

Im not fussed over the situation because I know they bothdo exactly the same thing.

  4. $2800 is pretty impressive. Very impressive for posting paid posts. I’ll have to check that out more. I thought you needed a LOT more traffic than you’ve got to get that much. How many posts did you make total - the video won’t play here at the hospital wifi :)

Incidentally, Thanksgiving is a US holiday and isn’t until November - last thursday in November I think.

    G-Man

  5. It’s incredible and hell, with a PR6 blog, it could be maybe twice as much with the right links sold.

As for Thanksgiving, well, I’m not quite sure why I thought it was today. That’s a mystery to me.

  6. About Thanksgiving, the US one is in Novemer, but I believe Canada’s is in October. At least the people I’ve seen mention it lately have said Canadian TG.

Yeah, get Macewan to spill his PR secrets. I could use the help. *L*
