Sunday’s money-making shouts
It’s Sunday, it’s 2 am and I’m hella hungover. I also just got a blue screen that restarted my operating system and I lost the entire blog post I’d just written. That sucks. As it’s Sunday, I’m going to throw in links to the blogs I’ve been reading this week that have provided me with either useful information or entertainment.
I’m sick to death with all the bloggers promoting the hell out of Blog Rush and Deal Dot Com. We get it already. It’s one thing that bloggers write similar content to each other at different times, but having near identical posts at the exact same time is driving me crazy. Is anybody actually making money or benefiting from these services (except Johns Cow and Chow)?
For these reasons, the guys over at Cash Quests gets my first shout because they’re not promoting Deal Dot Com and have exposed it for what it is: a scheme that can be exploited to make money only if you have a huge readership. On the flip side of things, the guys at Cash Quest could have made a lot of money by promoting Deal Dot Com. The fact that they took the opposite route so vehemently was deliberate because it’s in direct opposition to many of the top bloggers; it generates a buzz and makes Cash Quests stand out.
45n5 gets a shout for a great article about how paid advertising can drive people away from your blog. Mark makes a good case for not having paid adverts on some of your blogs (you’re a-list blogs, so to speak). The idea of using potential ad space to link inwards to your own blog is something I’ll be exploring next week. Thanks for the tip Mark.
Alvin Phang was so angry with John Chow after ordering a $400 Review Me review that he wrote an ebook about the whole debacle. It’s clear that now is not the best time to order a review from John Chow because he seems so trigger ready to gun down those buying the reviews. His reviews are structured in a way that highlights negative aspects of a product or website before anything positive. $400 can be used for many things, so unless you have a product you are sure will receive a positive review, there’s no point in turning to John Chow.
George from Can I Make Big Money Online wrote an interesting post about somebody offering to buy his blog. George writes about how he is mulling the idea of buying other successful blogs for up to $10,000 each. That’s some serious money. There is enormous potential in buying other blogs, but I don’t have that kind of budget yet. Today, however, I did buy one blog for $10, domain and all. Should be able to make that back in no time.
And finally, if you’re looking for some musical inspiration, I can’t fault the Blonde Redhead’s latest album 23. Check it out.
All that awaits now is the working week. Enjoy.
